Google Chrome Poised to Integrate Gemini Live AI for Interactive Browsing Experience

Recent developments suggest that Google Chrome may soon incorporate AI-enhanced capabilities through Gemini Live. Reports on social media from a credible source indicate that this two-way conversational AI feature could soon appear on the desktop version of Chrome. Originally introduced for Android users of Gemini Advanced in September, it made its debut on iOS the following month via the Gemini for iOS application. Recent findings indicate that the Chrome desktop build may soon host this innovative AI feature.

Details regarding the anticipated integration of Gemini Live into Google Chrome were shared by a well-known source. A new feature flag has been identified in Chromium Gerrit, a tool for developers engaged with the Chromium open-source project. This feature is believed to operate under the codename GLIC, likely signifying Gemini Live within Chrome.

According to the source, enabling this flag reveals a special tab strip icon marked with an exclamation point. The functionality of the AI tool necessitates microphone and location permissions, along with a unique settings page and user interface. Users might also have the ability to access GLIC from the toolbar or through keyboard shortcuts, enabling them to monitor and manage its actions with ease.

Although evidence suggests that this feature is on the verge of being introduced, it remains non-interactive as of now, according to the source.

Initially introduced at Google I/O 2024 in May, Gemini Live is designed to facilitate real-time interactions with a chatbot through natural language dialogue. Users can verbally pose questions to the AI assistant, which will provide responses in a similar manner. The system also enables follow-up queries without needing to restate the full context.

Within Gemini Live, users have the option to select from ten distinct voices for their conversations, offering variations in pitch, accent, and energy. This AI enhancement supports over 40 languages, encompassing nine Languages from India such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, and Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.
