Netflix gaming fans (we’re sure there are some) now can enjoy another title in its library, and, unlike many other ones, it’s not original but an already famous title. Oxenfree by Night School is now rebranded into “Netflix Edition” and available for free on App Store and Google Play for all the Netflix subscribers.
The game was released in 2017 to much appraisal by both critics and gamers. The indie survival adventure about teenagers on a strange island boasts impressive visuals and sound, as well as long great narrative. Exactly what Netflix adores, given how popular its Stranger Things is and how heavily it is exploited by its gaming division.
There is more to this release than a single game. Night School, the studio behind Oxenfree, has been acquired by Netflix recently, so i’'s safe to say that its further projects will also be released by Netflix. They may remain exclusive or be free for Netflix subscribers and paid for everyone else. So far, Night School is developing the sequel to Oxenfree, as well as the official Mr. Robot game (though the series itself is not on Netflix) and some other titles.
And it’s not all. Previously, Night School was the de-facto developer of the Stranger Things puzzle game. So the acquisition is nothing but logical. Next, it will become the official game development studio by Netflix, given how similar their DNA has been even before the deal.
As for now, if you have a Netflix subscription, you can download Oxenfree for iOS or Android right from the app stores or via the Netflix app. The game will take you quite long – long enough to binge-watch a good season, but for quality adventure fans, it will be worth this.
Have you already installed Oxenfree for free, and do you like it? What can you say about the Stranger Things puzzle game? Share your opinion and impressions with us in the comments if you please!
